4- blood vessels of the brain Flashcards
what forms the anterior and posterior circulations
A- ICA. cerebral hemispheres
P- vertebral arteries. cerebellum, brainstem, temporal and occipital lobe
describe the course of the middle cerebral artery
ica > lateral fissure > lateral cerebral hemispheres and grey matter
what does the middle cerebral artery supply
- lateral cerebral hemispheres eg. cortex and white matter
- lateral frontal and parietal lobes
- superior temporal
- deep branches (lentostiate) supply grey matter
- lentiform nucleus, caudate, internal capsule
describe course of anterior cerebral artery
ICA > left and right anterior cerebral anastomose in midline via anterior communicating artery > loop over corpus callosum and send branches to cortex
what does anterior cerebral artery supply
- cortical branches- medial aspect frontal and parietal -lobes
- corpus callosum
what does the basilar artery branch into
- posterior cerebral
- superior cerebellar
- pontine
- anterior inferior cerebellar
what does the posterior cerebral artery supply
- occipital, inferior temporal and thalamus
- midbrain
what branches of posterior cerebral artery supply the thalamus
thalamoperforator and thalamogeniculate branches
what does the superior cerebellar artery supply
the superior aspect of cerebellum and midbrain
what do the pontine arteries supply
the pons
what does the anterior inferior cerebellar artery supply
anterior-inferior aspect of cerebellum and lateral pons
what do the vertebral arteries branch into
anterior spinal arteries, posterior inferior cerebellar arteries
what do the anterior spinal arteries supply
converge in midline to. supply anterior 2/3 of cord
what do the posterior inferior cerebellar arteries supply
the posteroinferior cerebellum
