#4 Flashcards
Pitot-Static Errors
- Pitot Blocked (ASI reads zero because no ram pressure)
- Pitot Blocked and drainhole blocked (ASI acts like altimeter increases speed with increased altitude decreases speed decreased altitude due to air pressure being blocked in lines)
- Static Port Blocked (Altimeter and VSI freeze, “ASI will read inaccurately, when climbing airspeed will read inaccurately low, when you descend ASI reads inaccurately high”)
Static Port Alternate
Static port blocked use alternate static, alternate static gives you slightly higher readings
Breaking VSI Glass
If you don’t have alternate static brake the glass on VSI to provide pressure to pitot-static (only in unpressurized cabins)
Drain Hole
Purpose is to drain water out of Pitot
Gyroscopic Instruments
Attitude Indicator, Heading Indicator, these are run by gyros able to be spun for rigidity in space by vacuum pump
Turn Coordinator
Gyros spun rigidly by the electrical system (battery), indicates rate of turn with side/slip indicator
Compass Flight Errors
Compass turns slower moving away from North heading, and turns faster Moving away from South heading due to Magnetic poles South pushes away the North magnet in the compass and North pulls the North magnet in the compass.
On east or west headings compass moves north if you accelerate and moves south if you decelerate
Flight Controls
Work by pulley of cables
Primary Flight Controls
Aileron “bank”, Elevator “pitch”, Rudder “yaw”
Secondary Flight Controls
Flaps, Trim
