#3 Flashcards
Vacuum Pump
- Provides suction to altitude and heading gyros
- Engine Driven, shown by suction gauge
Oil Cooler
Heat Exchange taking cool outside air to cool hot engine oil
Dewpoint Depression Formula
Temperature - Dewpoint = Dewpoint Depression
Fuel System for C172M
-Gravity Fed fuel System
42 Gallon Max Capacity (38 gal usable)
19 gallon per fuel tank
Components of Fuel System
Fuel Selector allows passage of fuel
Primer takes fuel directly from fuel lines and sends it
directly to intake cylinder valve
Throttle controls throttle control valve which controls fuel/air amount entering the engine
Mixture controls mixture needle which controls fuel/air ratio
Fuel Filter Filters containment from entering engine
Gascolator (helps filter and catch containment/water Lowest Point in Fuel System)
Mixture
As altitude increases, air density decreases
as air density decreases or increases you must lean or enrich the mixture to keep correct fuel/air ratio
Landing Gear and Hydraulics of C172M
Fixed Tricycle gear
-Brakes
Only specific hydraulically operated
Disc Brakes
-Hydraulic fluid is 5606H (Red)
Airplane Instruments
ASI, Altitude Indicator, Altimeter, Turn coordinator, heading indicator, VSI
Pitot-Static System
Pitot-Static system is ASI, VSI, Altimeter
-Pitot Tube (provides ram pressure and Static pressure to ASI)
Pitot Tubes use differential pressures to detect the speed of the aircraft, static pressure of air is different then ram pressure of air this difference is calculated to detect the speed of an aircraft
-Static Port (Provides air pressure to ASI, VSI, Altimeter) VSI and Altimeter use diaphragms to detect increase and decrease in air pressure to detect altitude change or increase or decrease in altitude
Deicing for C172M
Pitot-Heat only form of deicing, uses electric power to heat up the pitot tube to unblock/remove ice from the system
