Puritans
Were John Winthrop and his followers. Religious group they didn’t want to entirely separate from the English church. They wanted to simplify the way to serve god.
John Winthrop
Leader to a group of people going to the new land. Was sure his colony would set an example for other Massachusetts
General court
Puritans giving the right to church members who elected representatives to the general court
Great migration
In 1640, 15000 men moved to the new worlds Massachusetts.
Thomas hooker
A Puritan minister led 100 people to Connecticut. They believed that in Massachusetts the government had to much power.
Fundamental orders of Connecticut
A plan for the Connecticut government. It gave the right to vote to all men who owned property. Limited governors power.
Roger Williams
A Puritan minister who believed the government had to much power. In his view state and church should be separate. He believed in toleration he was ordered to leave Massachusetts and he went to the Indians who sold him Rhode Island
Anne Hutchinson
Was a Puritan. In 1637 she appeared before the general court and was questioned without mistake until she said god spoke to me. After this she was ordered out of Massachusetts and fled to Rhode Island.
Metacom
He was the chief of Indians. He was captured and tortured after attacking New England villages.
Toleration
Letting other practice their own beliefs

Holy day of rest.

People discussed and voted on many issues in the colony.
