3.Formation of TRS Flashcards
1
Hurricanes begin as thunderstorms
The warm air from thunderstorms and deep warm ocean surface combine and start to rise to create low pressure
2
Trade winds at equator cause storm to spin due to earth’s rotation
Air continues rise and pressure decreases
3
Warm moist air rises faster and draws more warm air from sea surface, sucking cooler air downwards
Repeats over ocean and winds speeds increase as more air is sucked in. Air rapidly cools and condenses creating cumulonimbus clouds
4
Central vortex develops as increased air is drawn in and rises. The eye has calm winds surrounded by a spinning vortex of high winds and heavy rain
Storm becomes a hurricane when winds are over 73mph, only when it hits land storm will decay
