Q
Intervertebral Discs
A
- Sit Between vertebrae and absorb vertical shock
- Permit various movements of the vertebral column
- Fibrocartilagenous ring with a pulpy center (nucleus pulposus)
4
Q
Four normal curves of the spine (4)?
A
- cervical and lumbar (anteriorly convex curves-back face of the c facing the anterior)
- thoracic and sacral (anteriorly concave curves-back face of c facing posterior)
5
Q
Primary Curves
A
Thoracic and sacral are formed during fetal development
6
Q
Secondary Curves
A
- Cervical is formed when infant raises head at 4 months
- Lumbar forms when infant sits up & begins to walk at 1 year
7
Q
What kind of curve do a fetus have
A
only one single anteriorly concave curve
8
Q
When does the cervical curve begin to develop
A
when a child begins to hold their head up
9
Q
When does the lumbar curve begin to develop?
A
when a child begins to walk
