3.6 Peripherals / Printers / Projectors / External Storage Flashcards
Explain the purposes and uses of various peripheral types.
What are the different types of printers?
Impact, Inkjet, Dye-Sublimation, Thermal, Laser, 3-D, and Virtual.
Explain the function of a printer.
What a printer can and can not do is largely determined by the type of printer technoology it uses, that is how it gets the image onto the paper. Modern printers can be catagorized into several types: IMPACT, INKJET, DYE SUBLIMATION, THERMAL, LASER, 3-D, and VIRTUAL.
Explain the function of a flatbed scanner.
All flatbed scanners (which is the most common scanner) work with the same way. You place a photo or other object face down on the glass (called the platen), close the lid, and then use software to initiate the scan. The scanner runs a bright light along the length of the platen once or more to capture the image.
Explain the function of a barcode/QR scanner.
Bar code scanners read standard standard UPC bar-codes or QR codes, primarily to track inventory. Scanners enable easy updating of inventory databases stored on computing devices,
What does UPC stand for?
UPC = Universal Product Code.
What does QR stand for?
QR = Quick Response
Explain the function of a monitor.
Monitors display the information coming from the computer.
What is a VR headset?
A VR headset is a device you wear on your face that immerses you into a virtual world, most commonly used in VR gaming. There are stand alone VR headsets, but most commonly are headsets attached to a computer.

What is a signature pad?
These are devices that enable you to sign your name and have that signature converted to digital.
Explain lumens / brightness.
On a projector, LUMENS describes the maximum strength of the bulb inside the projector. The higher the lumen, the stronger and brighter the projector light is. Brightness dims and brightens the bulb.
What is a KVM?
KVM stands for Keyboard, Video Mouse. It is a hardware device that enables multiple computers to be viewed and controlled by a single mouse, keyboard, and screen.
