3.5.4 - Acid + Metal Reaction Flashcards
Acid + metal equation
Acid + metal ➡️ salt 🧂+ hydrogen
When is a salt formed !?
. A salt is a compound formed when H is displaced from an acid
What are the two important observations made in an Acid + metal reaction
. The metal disappears
(used up)
. There is fizzing
(hydrogen gas is produced)
What are the three metals less reactive than hydrogen!?
. Au ➡️Ag ➡️Cu
Why can’t we use the less reactive metals in an acid + metal reaction !?
. They are less reactive than hydrogen so they can’t displace it.
What are the middle reactive metals !?
. Pb ➡️Fe ➡️Zn➡️C➡️Al ➡️Mg➡️Ca
What are the three most reactive metals !?
. Li ➡️ Na ➡️ K
Why don’t we use the three most reactive metals in an acid + metal reaction !?
. Their reaction with acid is too violent
What is the chemical test for hydrogen !?
. Lit splint➡️ squeaky pop
(causes test tube to resonate)
