How should OFD units respond to emergency incidents on the freeway?

Answer 1

Standard Code 3 response
Traffic Conditions: if no other option drive on the right shoulder, shut down code 3 lights, use rear emergency lights and flashing hazards.

Question 2

How should first arriving unit position themselves on the freeway? In traffic/on shoulder?
Additional Units?

Answer 2

First unit should position angled to block traffic if in traffic lanes, utilize emergency lighting
Additional units should pull past the incident, in involved lanes, and out of the flow of traffic
If on the shoulder and out of traffic, emergency lights are not recommended
No CHP? daytime: cones Nighttime: road flares
Leaving the scene? Utilize emergency lighting

Airship Operations on the freeway

Answer 3

• Last resort to land on freeway
• If necessary to land an airship on the fwy, extrication should be completed first
• Coordinate landing with CHP Incident Commander
