3.4.1.5 - Newton's Laws Of Motion Flashcards
What must occur in order for an object to remain at constant velocity?
Either no resultant force or no forces acting on the object.
What is Newton’s second law?
F=ma
What is force proportional to?
Both mass and acceleration.
What is acceleration proportional to?
1/mass
Effects of icy roads?
Increase braking time as friction reduced.
Effects of condition of tyres.
Increases braking distance as if tread too small, friction is reduced.
Effects of alcohol?
Thinking distance increases and reaction time increases.
Effects of mobile phones?
Thinking distance increases as it is a distraction.
Effects of weather?
Visibility reduced therefore thinking distance increases.
Effects of heavier vehicle?
Stopping distance increases as more force required to slow vehicle.
Effects of condition of brakes?
Increases braking distance as if broken they would be less responsive and therefore less effective.
Vehicle bumpers?
Increase time of impact and therefore force on person is reduced.
Crumple zones?
Increases time of impact and therefore reduces force.
Seat belts?
Restrain wearer and therefore increase time of impact as weaker doesn’t hit the front of the car at high speed?
Collapsible steering wheel?
Impact force is reduced as it collapses.
