What is Shari’ah law?
A
The Islamic code of behaviour that is derived from the Qur’an to help Muslims understand how to lead their lives according to Allah’s wishes.

What is a Hadd offence?
A
Hadd offences are serious crimes with set penalties. E.g. Theft = amputating hands, Adultery = death by stoning

What is a Tazir offence?
A
Tazir offences are crimes committed and punishments are decided by the judge.

Why is punishment important to Muslims?
A
- Creates a more stable society & prevents further crime
- Offenders should be given the opportunity to change their behaviour
- Protects the community
- Allows people to live their lives within a limit
- May encourage the offender to repent
