what is a adatum reference point
a datum reference point is the point from which all measurements are taken from. usualy found in the corner of a design or from the centre or edge of a circular shape.
it increases accuracy as all measurements are taken from this point
what does a scale drawing allow a designer to do
accurately represent an object or building in a more practical size. diagram will include accurate measurements that have been enlarged or reduced by a specific ammount. It will be shown on drawing. improves understanding of the proposed shapes and spacial relationships
what are jigs
used to hold a piece of material during cutting, drilling or bending. it improves accuracy and efficiency.
secures the work quickly and causes no damage
work piece is always located against a reference point or datum edge
what are templates
shaped pieces of material used in cutting, drilling and shaping.
ensures an item is accurately made and it can be replicated to ensure a consistent quality. should be durable for repeatable use
