aesthetics
designers consider factors including shape, size, colour, surface finish and texture. aesthetics should appeal to the target market

availability
must consider availability of a material. issues with supply can affect the price of an end-product:
are the materials easay to source, widely available and quick to deliver? are ethey supplied in stock forms and sizes?
cost
cost of materials will impact the final price the product will be sold for. The total cost of design, manufacturing, testing, packaging and delivery shouldnt exceed the selling price
mass produced, budget friendly items must be what
made of cheaper and readily available materials
high end luxury items need to be what?
made of high quality materials to reflect the selling price
advantages of buying in bulk
reduces cost per unit, which helps reduce the overall cost of manufacturing
disadvantages of buying in bulk
upfront costs, extra storage space needed and potential wastage of any goods with a shelf life that expires
ethical factors
consider the needs of thhe user and understand the requirements they have and make their product solve these problems
consider human rights
make somethinf functional, reliable and usable

What does the FSC logo on wood/paper products mean
show that they have come from a sustainable source -> sustainably managed forests, which means the forest will use selective logging and replanting to create a cycle of productivity and supply that doesnt hearm forest environment
environmental factors
aim to limit environmental impact of their product
-is it possible to use a sustainable material?
can materials be sourced locally?
can they be reused, recycled or are they biodegradable?
ethical, social and environmental factors for tropical hardwood
must be sourced from a sustainable FSC registered plantation. this protects tropical forests from illegal logging, which is increasing deforestation. illegal supply can continue to create demand for these timbers
