(3.2.1.2) prokaryotic cells Flashcards
1
Q
compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
A
- prokaryotic cells is much smaller than eukaryotic cells
- prokaryotic cell has a murein cell wall but eukaryotic cell has a cellulose cell wall
- prokaryotic cells lacks membrane-bound organelles but eukaryotic cell has them
- prokaryotic have 70S ribosomes whereas eukaryotic have 80S ribosomes
- prokaryotic DNA is circular and floating free in cytoplasm but eukaryotic DNA is linear and enclosed in a nucleus
- prokaryotic DNA is ‘naked’ whereas human DNA is bound to histones/proteins
2
Q
what are some occasional features of a prokaryotic cell?
A
- can have plasmids which are circular loops of DNA
- can have a capsule surrounding cell wall which helps agglutination and adds protection
- can have a flagella to aid in movement
