Q

Why are poly(alkene)’s not biodegradable?

A
  • Addition polymers are chemically inert
  • Contain lots of strong covalent bonds which require lots of energy to break so not biodegradable

Q

What are the possible reactants and products for a poly ester?

A

-Diol + Carboxylic acid = Ester + Water
- One monomer with both alcohol and carboxyl group x 2 = Ester + water
- Diol + Acyl chloride = Ester + HCl
