What are the similarities of SAD and Separation Anxiety Disorder
both share anxiety as a common feature, expressed through specific and discrete cognitive, physiological and behavioural reactions.
Sx of Separation anxiety disorder
A - inappropriate fear of separation - reluctance, distress, refusal to separate, nightmares, physical complaints etc.
B - persisted for 6 months for adults, 4 weeks for children
C - clinically significant distress or functional impairment
D - Not better explained by another mental disorder
Sx of Social Anxiety Disorder
A. Marked fear or anxiety about one or more social situations in which the individual is exposed to possible scrutiny by others. For children, it must occur in peer settings, not just with adults.
B. Fears the anxiety symptoms will be obvious and cause negative evaluation
C. The social situations almost always provoke fear or anxiety. In children, the fear or anxiety may be expressed by crying, tantrums, freezing, clinging, shrinking, or failing to speak in social situations.
D. The social situations are avoided or endured with intense fear or anxiety
What are some of the typical manifestations of anxiety for children?
