3.11 ATP Flashcards
Why do cells need energy
For synthesis, transport, movement
Which molecule is able to supply energy for synthesis, movement, transport?
ATP ( adenosine tryposphate)
What does ATP molecule consist of
3 phosphate groups, nitrogenous base, Penrose sugar
What kind of reaction does ATO go to remove a phosphate and provide energy
Hydrolysis
What is produced in the hydrolysis reaction of ATP
Energy, ADO, inorganic phosphate
Why is ATO a good immediate storage
Cells do not need a large store of it as ATP->ADP is constantly happening
What are the properties of ATP
Small(moves easily)
Water soluble ( energy requiring processes happen in all aqueous solutions)
Contains bonds between phosphate with
intermediate energy
Releases energy in small quantities (suitable )
Easily regenerated
