3.1 Flashcards
Niche
Biotic and abiotic resources that it uses, when, where, and how is uses it
Realized Niche
What is actually being used
Fundamental Niche
What could be used, space and resources
Mutualism
Interaction from which both species benefit
Commensulasim
Interaction in which one species benefits and the other is neutral
Parasitism
Eats/lives on or in a host
Predation
Kills and eats prey
Herbivory
Animals that eat plants
Facultative
Both receive benefits but aren’t needed to survive
Obligatory
Species are entirely dependent on each other
What is likely to happen if the niches of two species overlap a little? Overlap a lot?
They can either start a niche partitioning, or one of the species will start to die off
How can niche partitioning increase the biodiversity of a community? What are some ways that species can partition their niches?
It allows more plants and animals to grow and survive.
They can partition by food type, time, and location
