Arithmetic mean
x̄ = Σx / n x = variable n = number of values of x
Arithmetic mean on frequency distribution
x̄ = Σfx / Σf f = frequency x = variable
How to work out the mean on grouped frequency distribution
Find the mid point for x x̄ = Σfx / Σf
Median
the middle number if there is an even number of items take the two middle items and divide by 2 to give you the median

The range when arranged in classes
the highest value minus the lowest value
The range when data is not grouped
the highest value minus the lowest value + 1

measures how far away from on average the data points are from the mean
