2. Summarising and analysing data - 1 Flashcards
ACCURATE
Accurate Complete Cost Effective Understandable Relevant Accessible Timely Easy to use
Grouped distributions
putting a tally system into a range or class
work out angles on a pie chart
work out each segment as a % of the total
take % and x 3.6 to give you angles of pie chart
Multiple bar chart
shows two or more different sets of data against each other
Compound bar chart
Shows each set of data in the same bar
Histogram
Frequency is measured by the area of a block or rectangle in a bar chart
x axis is the variable being measured (horizontal)
y axis if the corresponding frequency (vertical)
Ogive
a graph of cumulative distribution, which shows data values on the horizontal axis and either the cumulative frequencies, the cumulative relative frequencies or cumulative percent frequencies on the vertical axis.
Discrete data
only certain values i.e. shoe size
Continuous data
any value i.e. foot size
Unequal class size
area of each block must reflect the frequency
how to work out the height
frequency x (standard width / actual width)
Standard width
most common width
Pareto 80-20 rule
Small proportion of population own the large portion of the overall wealth
Using this rule helps us to identify out biggest customers
Frequency polygon
A frequency polygon gives the idea about the shape of the data distribution.
The two end points of a frequency polygon always lie on the x-axis.
