3. Lung Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Asthma
A
Extra Mucus in bronchial tubes with inflamed airways
2
Q
Emphysema
A
Loss of elasticity
Destroyed Cilia
3
Q
Pulmonary fibrosis
A
scars form on the epithelium of the lungs, causing them to become irreversibly thickened.
4
Q
TB
A
Infected tissue within the tubercle dies, which damages the gas exchange surface, reducing the surface area and reducing tidal volume
Reduced tidal volume means that patient has to breathe faster in order to take in enough oxygen
5
Q
Lung Cancer
A
Growing tumour takes up space within the lung so less air can be drawn in- reduced tidal volume. This will result in lower concentration gradient
