3: Heat Joining Flashcards
1
Q
Oxy-Acetylene Welding - Process (3)
A
- Flame comes into contact with filler rod
- Melts surface forming a molten pool
- edges of filler rod melts and runs together to complete the weld
2
Q
Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding - Process (3)
A
- heat source continually moves along joint & melts area (weld pool)
- a shielding gas flows over the arc and joint to separate it from the atmosphere
- as the heat source moves on, area behind quickly cools it and solidifies
3
Q
Brazing - Process (5)
A
- surface is cleaned
- flux is applied to prevent oxidation of the surface
- joint is heated
- filler wire melts and flows into joint
- part is cooled and hardens
4
Q
Soft Soldering - Process (4)
A
- heat part
- add solder
- continue heating
- cool
