3. Ergonomics Flashcards
What are anthropometrics?
The physical measurements and limitations of a humans size and form.
What should you consider about the user?
Their age, gender, ethnicity- to gain information on the sizes essential for the design of the product.
What should you consider about the product?
What part of the product are you focusing on? Think about specific sizes you need to find out.
What should you consider about the aspects of a human which will relate to the product?
Is it their height? Foot length? - be specific and only focus on the sizings relating to the product.
What are percentiles?
The range of human sizes
Why do we rule out 1-5%ile and 95-100%?
As these are the human extremes
What %ile should you consider when designing?
The one most suitable so that the majority of users can access and use the product.
Why is it a big mistake to only design for the 50%ile?
As you are cutting out half of the users as it will either be too big or too small.
What is physiology in relation to ergonomics?
The way the human body works and interacts with the product.
Name the three aspects of physiology
Range of movement
Fatigue
Strength
True or False?
We must always consider who will use the product and their limitations as this will directly impact the design.
True
What is psychology in relation to ergonomics
The way the human perceives or understands the product.
Name the five areas that can influence a design with regards to psychology
Looks Feels Sounds Smells Tastes
What five things can you do to ensure that the user can use the product with ease?
Avoid over complicating products
Ensure the interface is easy to understand
Ensure the location of the functions are clear
Ensure each action is confirmed by feedback from the product
Design to lessen user error
What five things should the user be easily able to do?
Determine what action should be carries out
Understand the results of their actions
Evaluate the current state of the product
Interact naturally with the product or system layout
