3. Control of Gene Expression - Structure and Functions of RNA Flashcards
1
Q
Compared to DNA, RNA has the following features…
A
it is single stranded
the base Thymine is replaced with Uracil
the sugar deoxyribose is replaced with ribose
2
Q
how is mRNA made?
A
the transcription and splicing of a gene carries a copy of the DNA code from the nucleus to the ribosome
3
Q
what does rRNA do?
A
Forms the ribosome (along with some protein)
4
Q
What does tRNA do?
A
Each tRNA carries a specific amino acid, folds due to base pairing to form a triplet anti-codon and amino acid attachment site (the rRNA and tRNA molecules are made by the transcription of DNA sequences - one tat codes for rRNA and tRNA rather than for a protein)
