Q

What are the strengths of Nominal data?

A

Easy to generate from closed questions - large amount of questions can be collected and categorised quickly - increasing reliability

Q

What are the strengths of Ordinal data?

A

Indicates relative values on linear scale instead of just totals, more informative than nominal data

Q

What are the strengths of Interval data?

A

Most informative as the points are directly comparable because they are all of equal value ; scientific measures (mean + SD) used to record the distance between values are highly reliable + suited to most types of statistical analysis

Q

What are the weaknesses of Nominal data?

A

Because it does not give a numerical score for each participant, this crude type of data does not permit sensitive analysis

Q

What are the weaknesses of Ordinal data?

A

subjective data - as scaled data is open to interpretation. For example, on a scale of 1-5 of attractiveness, 4 could mean different things to different people

Q

What are the weaknesses of Interval data?

A
  • no absolute baseline
  • Interval scales that do not contain scientific measurements there is no absolute baseline to the scale so scoring 0 may not mean the participant doesn’t demonstrate the variable but that the scale doesn’t measure it
