3 Flashcards
What is the equation for cardiac output?
Cardiac output = heart rate x stroke volume
What is the cardiac output of a normal adult?
~4.7 litres per minute
What do catecholamines do?
Increase both the heart rate and stroke volume during physical activity
What is the equation for blood pressure?
Blood pressure = cardiac output x total peripheral resistance
(Peripheral resistance is affected by the size and length of the artery)
When is the myocardium perfused?
During diastole, as the aortic valves aren’t covering the entrance to the coronary arteries at that time
How much of the heart muscle does the LAD supply?
2/3
What does occlusion of the right coronary artery affect?
Less blood to the AV and SA nodes leading to arrhythmias and a slower heart beat
