Q
How should sampling be carried out?
A
In a manner that minimises impact on wild species and habitats
2
Q
When sampling what must consideration be given to?

Rare and vulnerable species and habitats that are protected by legislation
3
Q
What must be appropriate to the species being sampled?
A
The chosen technique
4
Q
What are four sampling techniques that can be used and for what kind of organism?
A
- point count = birds
- transect = plants, slow-moving organisms
- remote detection or camera traps = elusive species
- capture technologies (traps and nets) = mobile species
5
Q
What does a point count involve?
A
The observer recording all individuals seen from a fixed point count location. This can then be compared to other point count locations or with data from the same location gathered at other times
