2.7 How Valid is the Data? Flashcards
Why can investigations about distribution of organisms in their environment be very difficult?
They are usually done over a very long time and not all variables can be controlled
Name a control variable of the transect test?
Time of day
Why must all possible variables be controlled in a valid investigation?
To make sure each test has the same conditions so it is only the independent variable that is being tested
What makes a measurement repeatable?
If the original experimenter repeats the investigation and gets the same results
What makes a measurement reproducible?
If someone else can be repeated by someone else or use a different method/equipment and get the same results
Why is sample size important?
To get representative results, the larger the sample size, the more we trust we can have in the data from the tests
