2.7 DNA Into Protein Flashcards
Conservative model.
Entirely new DNA molecule is formed.
Semi-conservative model.
One new strand one template strand.
Dispersive model.
New molecules are made from parts of old and new DNA
Name of the DNA experiment.
Meselson-Stahl experiment
After one division
Mix of 14N and 15N which disproved conservative.
After second division
Some DNA only had 14N disproved the dispersive.
Helicase
Unwinds the helix and breaks hydrogen bonds between the pairs.
DNA polymerase
Makes new strands by using energy to link the free bases with their complementary base.
Where does transcription occur?
In the nucleus.
What happens during transcription?
The helix unwinds, complementary base pairing, detaches from the helix and helix rewinds.
What is translation?
where the genetic information in mRNA is translated into a sequence of amino acids.
