What is Catholic CST and whats the purpose of it
•The Church’s teachings about social, political and economic issues. •The purpose of these teachings is to promote justice, peace and reconciliation•These teachings are rooted in in Jesus’ command to love your neighbour(Greatest commandment, sheep & goats, good Samaritan)•These teachings fall into 7 themes; sacredness & dignity of life, human rights and responsibility to protect them, rights & dignity of workers, call to family community and participation, preferential option for the poor & vulnerable, solidarity with all people as one family, stewardship & care for God’s creation. •Catholics can fulfil these teachings in corporeal (bodily) works of mercy e.g. charity work, or spiritual works of mercy e.g. prayer and comforting those in need•CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) is a charity that’s work is rooting in CTS –Raise awareness of the issues, short term aid in war and natural disasters, Long-term aid such as education of the locals, providing sustainable sources of food and water, vaccinations
