What is the management of acute urinary retention?
Catheter insertion
Record the volume of urine drained in 15mins
<200ml= not in urinary retention
>400ml= catheter remains in situ
Should send urine sample off for MCS
What is a complication of urinary retention?
Post obstructive diuresis (urination)
Due to loss of medullary gradient which can take time to re-equilibrate
Lead to loss of fluid volume and worsening AKI
Patients may need fluids
What is gastric MALT lymphoma?
Due to H.pylori infection
Most of the cancer responds to H.pylori eradication
What is 1st line investigation for testicular cancer?
USS scan
What are risk factors for testicular cancer?
Infertility Klinefelters FH Mumps orchitis Cryptorchidism- failure of testicular descent during embryological development
What marker is used to assess colon cancer response to treatment?
CEA
What are risk factors for caecal volvulous?
Pregnancy
Adhesions
Previous surgery
Any age
What is the management of acute diverticulitis?
If mild then send home with oral abx
If symptoms do not resolve within 72hrs or more severe symptoms then admit and IV ceftriaxone or metronidazole
What symptoms suggest an organic cause of erectile dysfunction?
Gradual onset
Normal ejaculation
Normal libido
Risk factors in medical history
Operations/radiotherapy/trauma to penis or scrotum
Using medication associated with ED
Smoking/high alcohol consumption/recreational drugs
