What are early causes of post operative pyrexia?
Occurs within 5 days of operation
- blood transfusion
- cellulitis
- UTI
- physiological systemic inflammation
What are late causes of post operative pyrexia?
After 5 days
- VTE
- pneumonia
- wound infection
- anastomotic leak
Why is epidural commonly used post bowel resection?
Faster return of bowels to normal function
What is the management of a breast fibroadenoma?
Surgical excision if >3cm
What is the management of low or high rectal cancer?
Anterior resection
What is the purpose of amylase in pancreatitis?
Helps with diagnosis

Testicular USS to rule out underlying malignancy
