2.5 Transport Systems - Plants Flashcards
What are the plant organs
The plant organs are roots, stems, and leaves
Name the parts of a leaf structure
The structure of a leaf is upper epidermis, palisade mesophyll, spongy mesophyll, vein (consisting of xylem and phloem), lower epidermis, guard cells and stomata
Where do water and minerals enter
Water and minerals enter the plant through the root hair cells and are transported in dead xylem cells
Describe the structure of the xylem vessel
Xylem is a tissue consisting of dead, hollowed-out cells that form a system of hollow tubes.
Describe the process of transpiration
Transpiration is the evaporation of water from the pores (stomata) on a leaf.
How is the transpiration rate affected by wind speed, humidity, temperature, and surface area
Wind speed- As wind speed increases, transpiration rate increases
Temperature- As temperature increases, transpiration rate increases
Surface area- as surface area increases, transpiration rate increases
Humidity- as humidity increases, transpiration rate decreases
Where is sugar transported
Sugar is transported up and down the plant in living phloem
