2.5 The Cell Cycle Flashcards
Semi conservative replication
Dna is half original strand which acts as template, helicase seperatea strands, free nucleotides activate, match up to complimentary bases, polymerase forms hydrogen bonds
Cell division
2 stages, cell and nuclear division. Dna must replicate first so each daughter cell gets identical copies
Mitosis
Division of the nucleus resulting in two identical daughter cells
Interphase
When the cell is not dividing
Interphase stages
G1- protein synthesis
S- organelles grow
G2- dna replicated
Mitosis stages
Prophase- chromosomes condense
Metaphase- spindle fibres form
Anaphase- chromatids separate to poles
Telophase- envelope reforms
Mitosis is important for
Growth, differentiation, repair
Cancer
Uncontrolled cell growth, treatment involves blocking part of the cell cycle
