24 - Wireless Networks Flashcards
1
Q
What is the main difference between a wireless and wired network
A
One uses wires and the other doesn’t
- Instead of a switch, it uses base stations
2
Q
What two layers of the TCP/IP stack are affected by Wireless Networks?
A
- Link
- 802.11 instead of Ethernet
- Physical
- Radio waves instead of cables
3
Q
What is 802.11?
A
A communication standard
What Mbps and frequency a communication will be on
4
Q
Because Wireless Networks are more susceptible to cyber attacks, how do we defend against these attacks?
A
Encryption
5
Q
What are the three types of Wireless Encryption?
A
- WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)
- WPA (WiFi Protected Access)
- WPA2
6
Q
What is WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)?
A
- Oldest encryption scheme
- Uses a 40-bit key
- Weak (by today’s standards)
- Can be cracked in less than 60 seconds
- 🢭Should NOT be your first choice for encryption
7
Q
What is WPA (WiFi Protected Access)?
A
- Same encryption algorithm as WEP
- Uses a stronger 128-bit key
8
Q
What is WPA2?
A
- Strongest encryption currently available
- Newer (stronger) encryption algorithm
- Use a 256-bit key
9
Q
What two things do WEP, WPA, and WPA2 provide?
A
- Initial authentication
- Long-term confidentiality
