Q

What happens with birth and death rates in each stage of the demographic transition?

A

Birth rates: They remain high in stages 1 and 2, then start falling in stage 3, then become low in stage 4, and they’re unseen in stage 5, but could be falling further.

Death rates: They’re high in stage 1, fall rapidly in stage 2, fall more slowly in stage 3, they’re low in stage 4, and stay low in stage 5.

Q

What happens with population growth rate in each each stage of the demographic transition?

A

The population growth rate in stage 1 is slow due to high births and deaths, then there’s faster population growth in stage 2, population growth starts to slow in stage 3, the population growth rates slow to zero in stage 4, and remains there in stage 5.

Q

How can an age structure be used to predict population growth?

A

By determining the percentage of the female population. Since females reproduce and give birth, birth rates can be predicted by the percentage of the female population. The age structure shows the gender and age groups in a population.

Q

Please compare and contrast population growth and resource use between developed and developing countries.

A

Developing countries are still developing, so their population is increasing, along with resource use and development. Developed countries tend to have less of a population growth, which means less resource use and development. Though, both still increase and/or decrease in population and resource use every year.
