Humanistic perspective is
based on the principle that humans are basically good and a holistic approach to personality.
Rogers: Basis of personality
defined as the impact that one’s level of self actualisation (psychological growth) has on behaviour.
Rogers: Cause of Criminal Behaviour
The path to self actualisation has been physically or psychologically blocked leading to an abnormal response. want a rich self –> don’t get a job (path blocked) –> rob a bank.
Rogers: Altering the criminal personality
Growth through a relationship with a significant other who is genuine (honest), accepting, empathetic and an active listener.
Active Listening is
A technique which demonstrated that the listener is engaged through the use of verbal and non-verbal indicators, including responsive echoing.
Maslow: Basis of Personality
defined as the impact that one’s level of self actualisation (movement through the hierarchy of needs) has on behaviour.
Maslow: Cause of Criminal Behaviour
the person has been engaged in abnormal behaviours in order to gratify lower level needs.
Maslow: Altering the criminal personality
assist the individual to identify normal (acceptable) paths for moving beyond lower-level needs and achieving self actualisation.
