how are earthquakes distributed?
along all types of plate boundaries
convergent: broad belt of earthquakes along convergent plate boundaries in pacific ring of fire
divergent: narrow belt of earthquakes along divergent plate boundary at mid-atlantic ridge
transform: narrow belt of earthquakes along transform plate boundary at san andreas fault
what is the pacific ring of fire?
broad belt around pacific ocean where most of earthquakes and active volcanoes occur.
convergent: pacific plate moving towards philippine plate
divergent: pacific plate moving away from cocos plate
transform: pacific plate sliding past north-american plate at san andreas fault
where are volcanoes not found along and why?
transform plate boundaries & c-c convergent
at these boundaries, magma does not rise to earth’s surface to form volcanoes
hot-spot volcanoes located away from plate boundaries
how are volcanoes distributes?
1.volcanoes are located near convergent and divergent plate boundaries. At these plate boundaries, magma rises to surface, forming volcanoes
2. there are belts of volcanoes along o-c convergent plate boundaries. a broad belt of volcanoes along subduction zone in pacific ring of fire. along o-o divergent plate boundary. narrow belt of volcanoes along divergent boundaries between north american and Eurasian plates.
