example: global areas consists of many regions, then countries and then even smaller spatial units within countries such as provinces or districts.

when connections and synergies are created it helps achieve sustainability. long term plans at national level seek to achieve by optimising scarce land resources to cater to diverse needs of current and future generations

synergies are improved results when two or more people or organisations work together

- URA (urban redevelopment authority) and stakeholders do the long term planning for sg. They map out land uses and infrastructure needs in sg over the next 50 years, plan reviewed every 10 years. This is because diverse needs have to be addressed, competing land uses and space for key infrastructure such as train lines and cycling networks.
