2.3 Exploding Cells And Acid Trouble Flashcards

1
Q

Why do necrotic cells swell and burst?

A

Failure of action of Na,K,ATPase - sodium not being pumped out now so osmolality and oncotic pressure cause water to enter, swell, burst

Q

Oncotic pressure?

A

Form of osmotic pressure exerted by proteins
Higher oncotic pressure - water follows
E.g. Albumin in blood vessels

Q

What is shock?

A
