23/3 - Crop production seminarie Flashcards

Q

What are the most limiting environmental factors for crop production especially at northern latitudes?
Which environmental factors are most different from the situation at more southern latitudes?

A

Which environmental factors are most different from the situation at more southern latitudes?
Growth season is short
Rätt mängd regn på rätt ställe - ccp
Frost/snow - lagom mäng - för mycket = död. För lite = ingen isolation
Hindrar ozygen att nå and also freezing
Less pest and sjukdom - sommaren är perfekt
Early summer drawt - everywhere

Spe: snow and time

Q

What are the greatest future risks for crop production at northern latitudes in the light of predicted future climate change scenarios?
How should crop production at northern latitudes be adapted to future climate?

A

Water at the wrong time, pests
Spring crops decrease
Har delar av sv där det blir torka tex Kalmar pågå ej mycket vatten kvar I molnen

Development of the crops gets affected - blommar för tidigt

Bättre minirelisation
Earlier spring sådd
Ingen snö som kan förstöra clay bitar

Sanitera jorden då fryser - dödar av patogener

Draining - handel the heavy raining
Introduce new crops
Recilians ök detta (?)
Transgenic crops - vilka traits I så fall?

Q

How can water use efficiency (WUE) be defined and measured? Which aspects of WUE are discussed in paper 1b?
Which of these measures appears most appropriate for the screening of large crop populations (e.g., breeding)?

A

Fotosyntes som han pratade om. Här nere: in/out. Hur bra växten är på att hanstera/spara vatten.
De metoderna han så - mäta vattnet och kolet

Stem reserv - kaktus/kamel diskuteras in paper

Best: komplement them but big scale woud be the pots - yield and water comsentration in soil
(fotosyntes = produktion)
(water needing = avdunstning) - koppla till det lilla
Prefer one type of carbon isotop - c12
Mindre vatten - kan ej va lika picky men vilket c de tar upp - går analysera genom att kolla compositionen av växten - mängden c12

Q

How can nutrient use efficiency (NUE) be defined and measured? Which aspects of NUE are discussed in paper 1b?
Which of these measures appears most appropriate for the screening of large crop populations (e.g., breeding)?

A

NUE is defined as grain production per unit of N
available in the soil (Moll et al. 1982, van Sanford
and MacKown 1986). When the definition is re-
stricted to the ability of the plant to utilize applied
N fertilizer (Tilman et al. 2002) it omits variation in
N mineralised during crop growth and hence is more
related to agronomic efficiency. Several studies have
showed improved NUE in modern wheat (Austin

Measure: clolofyll jämnför med unfertelksed
Early root development - bigger in springs

Growth analasys based vs någon mer
