2.2.2 - Bonding And Structure Flashcards
1
Q
Why is it wrong to describe delocalised electrons or ions as “able to carry charge”?
What should you say instead?
A
They ARE charged.
Instead, they can CONDUCT.
2
Q
Why can’t ionic compounds conduct as a solid.
A
The ions can’t move as they’re fixed in a LATTICE STRUCTURE.
3
Q
Can dative bonds be part of double / triple bonds?
A
Yes (eg carbon monoxide)
