2.2 Study Guide Flashcards
What does N stand for?
It stands for the population size.
What is the definition of density independent?
The effect is not related to/is independent of the density of the population.
What are some density dependent limiting factors?
Some are:
-intraspecific competation
- interspecific predation
- disease and parasites
- social behaviors
What does dN/dt represent?
It represents the population growth rate.
What makes a logistic growth model?
It is a model that describes how the population grows over time when limited by factors such as overcrowding and/or food.
How do exponential growth model change when N changes and why?
When the population size changes the population’s growth rate becuase if a the population growth rate increases over time, the size will also increase due to them being proportional.
How does logistic growth models change when K changes and why?
When the carrying capacity changes the growth rate will decrease. It is because a population’s per capita growth rate gets smaller and smaller as population size approaches a maximum.
