2.2 Perform Topographical Analysis Flashcards
What is a typical max slope?
Between 5 and 10 percent
Rate of change in elevation between two points in a given area; rise over run
slope
The overall changes in topography on a site or a particular region; Vertical difference in elevation between highlands and lowlands in a given region
Relief
Represents the change in topography; often created by shading the areas between contours on a topographic map; often used to evaluate the pathways for existing or proposed drainage through a water shed or across site
Relief Map
Direction in which a sloping land surface faces relative to the cardinal points
Aspect
Which slope aspects receive hotter temperatures?
1.) South, 2.) West
The slow movement of soil in a downhill direction under the influence of gravity
Soil creep
Poorly consolidated deposited material deposited at the base of hills, particularly at the mouths of gullies and ravines. The material is generally highly erodible and has poor bearing strength for structures
Alluvial Fans
What re the typical angle of repose for different materials by percent?
Sand - 33%
Boulders 45%
Loam 45%
Well compacted clay - 65%
