Sport is still regarded by some as unfeminine.
Certain activities are traditionally linked to males and females.
More women than ever are now involved in physical activity and there is more interest in health and fitness activities.
Participation rates of women in football and rugby are continuing to grow.
Increased number of female sport presenters, encouraging interest and female role models.
How did law and order affect sport in the 21st century?
Legislation that affects sport is sophisticated and specific to sport.
The right/safety of athletes and spectators are now protected by law.
Banning orders have been used in football to stop disruptive fans from travelling abroad.
The law has involved the misuse if drugs, misconduct on/off the field and ‘match fixing’.
Laws to prevent discrimination based on race, gender, disability, age, sexual orientation and religion exist in the UK.
How did education affect sport in the 21st century?
Children between the ages of 5-16 must receive an education.
Examination and qualifications in PE and sport have been increased in availability.
Universities offer a wide range of sport related degrees.
How did availability of time, money and transport affect sport in the 21st century?
Society has become much more technological, increasing time available.
Flexible working conditions.
Most people are better off in terms of money.
The global recession affected disposal incomes.
Increased availability of transport.
What is globalisation?
A process that involves sport as a worldwide business and features corporate brands, media coverage and freedom of movement of sport participation, officials and spectators.

Sport is a global marketplace for participants to demand high wages for their skill.
National and international laws allow freedom of movement.
Some performers change nationality.
Many spectators now travel to support teams or to watch international competitions.
How does media coverage affect international sports?
Increased TV coverage led to the globalisation of sport.
Media increased the number of people who watched televised sport.
Very little media attention has been devoted to sporting inequalities based on class, gender and ethnicity.
Rules have been influenced and timings of games are fixed to suit TV.
