beta agonist mechanism of action
Salbutamol, Terbutaline: beta 2 adrenoreceptors to relax bronchial smooth muscle
beta agonist side effects
tremor, tachycardia, hypokalaemia
corticosteriod: mechanism of action
beclomatasone, flutiasone, budesonide: reduce inflammation, hyper responsiveness and goblet cell hyperplasia (and therefore vascular permeability)
long acting beta agonist: mechanism of action
Salmeterol, Formoterol have a lipophillic side chain anchoring molecule and increasing contact time.
what is simbicort?
combined formoterol and budesonide
leukotriene receptor antagonist: mechanism of action
Montelukast : stops leukotreines binding to receptors - reduces bronchoconstriction, reduces inflammation, mucus secretion, vascular permeability and eosinophil recruitment
Xanthines: mechanism of action
theophylline, aminophylline: inhibit phosphodiesterase.
