Why are the Cyclopean walls important ?
7m high now and 10m high then they where great for defence and a marvel of craftsmen ship
Why was the Cyclopean ramp important ?
Main approach to the walls. It was massive hence the name however only a small part remains
What is important about the gate ?
Pivot holes in the door and gates can be seen
- This shows us attackers could be trapped in long, narrow passages between the two gates beyond the entrance. Ideal for defenders to hurl things at attacker trapped there.
What is important about the frescoes ?
Painted, on damp plaster and rich ladies and hunting scenes are depicted on them.
What is the most famous feature ?
The galleries
- built into the outer wall with corbelling
- up to 30m long with large numbers of rooms
