“The stone fell out of (my) soul.”
When the issue is solved, when the weight is lifted, we would say this. There is great relief associated with this statement, as there was great grief when the stone was there.
“Камень упал с души (у кого-то).”
“I have (or someone else has) a stone in my soul.”
When you have a big difficulty or trouble, and it weighs on you. You are very unsettled inside. You’re not sure how to solve the issue or what to do. We might say in English, ‘The weight of the world on his shoulders.’
“(У меня) камень в душе.”
“To invest the soul in someone or something.”
With people, this can be a friend but usually it is parents with children. With things, this could be a hobby, a job, an idea. Whatever it is, the person gives everything they have to it and holds nothing back.
“Вкладывать-Вложить душу (в кого-то/во что-то).”
“To spit at/in someone’s soul.”
This is when someone has offended you, either knowingly or not. Maybe you did something really nice for them and they casually say they don’t like it. Maybe you do something that you’re very proud of, with lots of effort, and they blow it off as unimportant. Either way, you’re hurt deeply.
“Плевать-Наплевать в душу (кому-то).”
“Not a soul there.”
We would say “Nobody’s there.”
“(Нет/не было) ни души.”
(Some kind of) soul.
Ex. - good, light, black, dead, …
“(Какая-то) душа.”
Добрая, светлая, чёрная, мёртвая, …
“A soulful/soulless person.”
“Душевный/Бездушный человек.”
(They/we are) “kindred spirits.”
“(Они/Мы) родственные души.”
“That’s the last drop!”
In English, we would say, ‘That’s the last straw!’
“Последняя капля!”
[выйти из себя. Мою терпение кончается.]
