21 Initial Take Off Climb Flashcards
When does the Initial Take Off Climb begin and end?
Begins at screen height (35ft) and ends at 1500ft
What is the purpose of:
- NADP1
- NADP2
(Noise Abatement Departure Procedure)
NADP1:
- Used when the noise sensitive region is directly at the end of the runway
- Aim is to reduce noise as soon as possible
NADP2:
- Used when the noise sensitive region is some distance away from the runway
- Aim is to climb as quickly as possible to reduce noise by the noise sensitive region
Describe the NADP1 including:
- Heights/Altitudes
- Speeds
- Flaps
- Gear
- Start at screen height (35ft) at V2
- Climb to 800ft, V2+10, TOGA, retract gear, flaps in T/O
- Climb to 3000ft, reduce thrust, V2+10, reduce climb rate (still +ve), gear up, flaps in T/O
- Climb (+ve), increase thrust, accelerate, retract flaps
Describe the NADP2 including:
- Heights/Altitudes
- Speeds
- Flaps
- Gear
- Start at screen height (35ft), V2
- Climb to 800ft, TOGA, V2+10, retract gear, flaps in T/O
- Accelerate to Vzf, climb(+ve), TOGA, gear up, retract flaps
- Climb to 3000ft
- Reduce thrust as and when required
Describe the NTOFP (Net Take Off Flight Path) for a Class A AC including:
- Start/end
- Speed
- Gear
- Flap
- Thrust setting
- Max bank angle

Seg 2:
- Starts at spd: V2 and ends at min 400ft
- Spd: V2
- Gear up
- Flap in specific configuration
- Thrust: TOGA
- Max AoB: 15 degrees (20 with approval)
Seg 3:
- Starts at min 400ft and ends at spd: Vmd and clean AC config.
- Spd: V2 to Vmd
- Gear up
- Flaps retracting
- Thrust: TOGA
- Max AoB: 25 degrees (30 with approval)
Seg 4:
- Starts spd: Vmd and clean AC config. and ends at 1500ft
- Spd: Vmd
- Gear up
- Flap zero
- Thrust: MCT
What are the rules regarding turns in the NTOFP for a class A AC?
- Turns can be commenced at a height >50ft or 1/2 wingspan (which ever is greater)
- AoB must be <= 15 degrees below 400ft (Segment 1 and 2)
- AoB must be <= 25 degrees above 400ft (Segment 3)
- With special approval: <= 20 degrees between 200 and 400ft and <= 30 degrees above 400ft
What is the minimum obstinate clearance for a Class A AC in the NTOFP?
- 35 ft when AoB is limited to 15 degrees
- 50 ft when AoB is higher than 15 degrees
For a Class A AC, what determines the maximum acceleration height in the 3rd segment of the NTOFP?
Maximum time take-off thrust can be applied (10mins one engine)
For a Class A AC, what are the safety factors to be applied to calculate the net gradients during the NTOFP:
- 1 Eng remaining
- 2 Eng remaining
- 3 Eng remaining
- 1 Eng: 0.8%
- 2 Eng: 0.9%
- 3 Eng: 1.0%
For a Class A AC, what are the min gross gradients which must be achieved during the the 1st segment of the NTOFP:
- 2 Eng AC
- 3 Eng AC
- 4 Eng AC
- 0.0%
- 0.3%
- 0.5%
For a Class A AC, what are the min gross gradients which must be achieved during the the 2nd segment of the NTOFP:
- 2 Eng AC
- 3 Eng AC
- 4 Eng AC
- 2.4%
- 2.7%
- 3.0%
For a Class A AC, what are the min gross gradients which must be achieved during the the 3rd segment of the NTOFP:
