14
Q

Benefits of selective attention

A

- improves reaction time
- improves chances of making the right decision
- by ignoring irrelevant information, athlete can focus on more detailed aspects of the task

16
Q

Describe each part of the perceptual stage

A

Detection - pick up the relevant information and identify it as important
Comparison - matching the new information to the information already in the memory
Recognition - using information from the memory to identify an appropriate response

17
Q

Define translatory mechanism

A

Adapting and comparing coded information to memory so that decisions can be made

18
Q

What are the different parts of the output stage?

A

Effector mechanism
Muscular output
Feedback

19
Q

Explain the effector mechanism

A

The network of nerves that sends coded impulses to the muscles so they can perform the action. When the muscles have received the impulses, they will contract and the response can begin.
